Shelby Lynne Just to Little Lovin’ (2008)
To pay tribute to an artist is another way of presenting an album of covers and big Shelby Lynne other one dedicated its album Just A Little Lovin’ to Dusty Springfield of the biggest to be claimed.
In this album Lynne covers some of the songs of the Springfield discography and it is the sufficiently intelligent thing as not to dare with topics to which it might not contribute anything, for very famous or emblematic that were, as The Preacher men is the case of Sound of. But, on the other hand, it reaches the highest levels re-visiting topics as The Look of Love, I only Want To be With You or You do not have to say you love me. An excellent album for the one who admires these two women.
Christopher Dallman Sad Britney (2009)
Following the schemes of the album that we were speaking previously, this time the honored one is Britney Spears and the manager of doing it is Christopher Dallman an independent singer-songwriter who reminds us to James Taylor or to David Gray. With this Ep, about the songs of Britney Spears to a public slightly used to its music and who is capable of appreciating it much better in the Dallman hands.
When we listen to its Toxic reinvention, we yield to the evidence of which it was already a big enclosed topic when Britney Spears was singing it. But also, we discover other tones that it it turns into the only experience.
Neither Sans Fusils, Nor Souliers, to Paris: Record Martha Wainwright's Piaf (2009)
It is necessary to have great value to dare with the repertoire of Edith Piaf and Martha Wainwright goes out victorious of the attempt. Also it resorts to the old trick on that we were commenting previously when we were speaking about the album of Shelby Lynne. There never goes to versionar a song so emblematic as The Vie in Rose. But on the other hand, it does that we take the hat from ourselves in numerous moments of the disc that, partly, is recorded directly. These moments come accompanied from songs as: Adieu Mon Cœur; C'est Toujours même Histoire; Odd number, The Sad Vie n'est pas; Marie Trottoir and especially in The Foule.
Birdy Birdy (2011)
Last year a very precocious youngster of only fifteen years called Jasmine van den Bogaerde, more known as Birdy, was surprising to insiders and outsiders with its début homonym. In that moment, we it take with great caution for talking each other of so young someone.
In the course of time this work turned into a success of sales in UK, in addition to being acclaimed by the criticism. The repertoire selected for this album does not correspond to the one that there would choose a conventional adolescent whose tastes might be closer to Justin Bieber or Katy Perry. She remains with Fleet Foxes, postal The Service or James Taylor to that versiona with an alarming naturalness, something that turns it into a peculiar and very precocious singer. Especially when we listen to it to sing topics of the nobility and intensity of Skinny Love of Bon Iver or People Help The People of Cherry Ghost. As curiosity to mention that the career of this girl is in full ascent with its participation in the Original Sound-tracks of movies like The Games of the Famine (Gary Ross, 2012) or the most recent Brave (Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, 2012).
Rumer Boys Don't Cry (2012)
Of that the second Rumer work was a covers disc we did not like the idea in the beginning because its album début Seasons of My Soul impressed very much for this so refreshing miscellany of current songs with a sound of any more setentero to us.
It is very obvious that it was difficult to maintain this line and style with new songs. That's why, after listening to Boys Don't Cry, we have changed opinion. It seems to us of the most coherent thing that he has decided to pull a repertoire precisely of authors of the seventies. Repertoire that, on the other hand, does his from the first note. Our darlings are Sara Smiles of Entrance hall and Oates or Travellin’ Boy of Paul Williams. Rumer also versiona to Neil Young, Jimmy Webb, Bob Marley, Isaak Hayes and Gilbert O'Sullivan, between others.
Joan Osborne Bring me to Home (2012)
Since Joan Osborne was making debut with Relish somewhere near 1995 and was turning into an one-hit wonder with the magnificent One of Us, it has had to demonstrate that more than an one-hit wonder he is an excellent musician, although it has never obtained again the reputation and popularity that provided that work to him. Along its career it has inserted the covers of other artists with songs of proper composition. This is the second album entirely of covers with the one that we surprise, the first one was How Sweet it is (2002) that well might exist including also in this list. In him he remembered topics of Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding or Jimi Hendrix. Some of its biggest musical influences. In Bring me to Home versiona topics of Ray Charles, Bill Withers, Ike and Tina Turner or John Mayal and it is an album that leaks purity and honesty.
Counting Crows Underwater Sunshine (Or what we did in our summer vacation) (2012)
One of the surprises of the period is the return of Counting Crows, a band that he was not publishing for four years and that finally has extracted its covers album. An album that nothing of its repertoire is out of tune because they have chosen a few songs little known for the big public. So it is probable that they discover many that it is a question of a covers album if someone says it to himself. Between the artists and bands selected we are from outstanding figures like Bob Dylan to other incursions more indies as Teenage Fanclub or The Romany Rye and up to bands belonging to the brit pop as Travis. It completes the list of persons being honored Fairport Convention, Faces, Big Star or Gram Parsons for quoting few ones. A very advisable album that keeps the freshness of the first works of Counting Crows.
