Presentation of the number THREE of Magazine Atticus in the Museum of Sculpture.

Presentation Covers Atticus THREE

Last Tuesday, the 4th of December there appeared in society the number THREE, printed edition, of Magazine Atticus. The act took place in the assembly room of the Palace of Villena of Valladolid, one of the head offices of the Museum of Sculpture. It was provided with the participation of Maria Bolaños, director of the Museum of Sculpture; Manolo Madrid, poet, writer and habitual collaborator of Magazine Atticus; and Luis José Cuadrado Gutiérrez, publisher of the magazine.

Maria Bolaños was grateful for the reportage that Magazine Atticus dedicates in this number to the Museum of Sculpture. «It is of being grateful that in these times there are initiatives as those of Luis José Cuadrado who directs a magazine to which I have a big fondness and which caught me from the beginning with this so cinematographic name». These were some of the words with which the directoria initiated the presentation. Later the word yielded to the publisher of our magazine, Luis José Cuadrado. Luisjo was grateful for the facility given by the director like the whole team of the Museum of Sculpture. Next we summarize some paragraphs of the presentation:

«Great you are that you already know our Magazine. We take Three years and a half working. We have 19 copies in digital format and 7 monographic numbers. And we come to a new appointment in printed edition, the third one.

Some of you can think: but, another presentation? Is it that whenever they do a number, they have to do a presentation?

Magazine Atticus is not a magazine to the use. It goes out to the market when it is ready or when we have had the resources sufficient for it. This is the only way of offering a good product. We do not have a pressing commitment with subscribers. We do not have to maintain a costly facilities infrastructure. When we have the tacked number we put ourselves to the search of the economic resources to carry out it. Namely we go out to look for the money of our friends and sponsors or, as I like calling them, friendly sponsors Atticus.

That's why, when we already have it, we skip and give happiness jumps to the knowledge that we can go out to the market with a new number. And this is the reason of being today here: to share with all of you this happiness and to present to you this creature of the one that every day we are prouder».

Next it was delayed in four/five articles that he emphasized about the rest for diverse reasons but that, like father of the creature, he feels proud of each and everyone of the works and collaborations that shape the number THREE.

«He did not want to allude to the current situation not so even of spent. This moment, this day has to be of joy, of immense happiness, because it is not easy to be here with this publication. The crisis cannot justify everything. We cross a situation very worrying cultural associate. It is identified to the culture with an insubstantial idea of vain entertainment. Throwing continuous messages of which there are other things in which to deal. Everything seems to obey a strategic plan to separate the citizens of the intellectual and sentimental education, an essential right for the formation of the critical consciences. Education and culture they are fundamental inside our democratic society. He is enough to remember that the article 44.1 of the Spanish Constitution defends the culture as a government property that must be protected by the State: The public powers will promote and tutelarán the access to the culture, to which they all have a right.

Why do our public leaders please to spend, to reach port dineros of the public fund to support big teams of soccer, of basketball or handball (even some of them they are sports societies) and push back to invest with so much waste in movies, books or why not, in cultural projects like ours?

Not long ago I read in a digital newspaper The Republic an article that goes for title In defense of the culture. He says this way.

To consider the cultural products to be a luxury article, leaving them the private interests is one more elitist attempt, of reducing the education of the citizenship, preventing its formation.

We cannot despise to the culture why it will imply the dismantling of our past, forgetting what we were; a dialogue will prevent with the present and he will suppose a cancellation or impoverishment of our future.

This base of our formation, of our culture, will serve for between other things of understanding what they say to us when they should speak to us, for putting some daily examples, of «reassignment of effective or of labor relaxation» let's realize that in fact what they are speaking to us is of dismissals. Or when we hear «to optimize the management» let's be able to understand that about what they speak it is of privatizing something like that, and hence, dismissing. Or, finally, when someone says, for putting an example, that we inaugurate this «pole of economic dinamización» what we can understand with our critical capacity is that we are before «a ruinous airport that is already not going to be released I say it to you». Finally, on having had a culture, it will be more difficult that they manipulate us.

I do not know about politics. Not of so many and so many other things. But I have imagination great and I like reading very much. Basically for two reasons: One because he encourages this imagination (as it happens with the movies or theater) and the second one, because it fulfills an objective double: it entertains us and keeps us informed. Javier Marías understands much more of politics that I, and it is brave. Last October 14 he was writing on its weekly page in The Country an article that I recommend to you and that goes for title: The cut away imagination. He speaks between other things that the year 2013 there has taken place a snip of 30 % in the contributions of the budget for the Prado Museum, Queen Sophia (I imagine that it is also) or the Real Theater or the National library. And, the fattest thing, the public libraries of the State will not have budget for the books buy. Terrible.

I have summarized the following thing:

The more arduous the routine character the more needs to escape …, during a little bit at the end of the day. Hour and a half of a movie, an hour of reading at the end of the day.

Those who write and do movies, which interpret and compose music, all of them give consolation at the end of the day …

There are a part of our formation like persons and, if not other things, they teach us to happen for the ground with an imaginative dimension.

To provide to what happens to us of this dimension is an enormous help against the reality that us apesadumbra.

In this point I connect with the publishing house of the number THREE. It takes for Average title bread and a book. A small speech, for many known, that Federico García Lorca pronounced on having inaugurated the library of its people in September, 1931.

Man cannot live by bread alone. I, if it was hungry and was helpless in the street would not ask for a bread; but he would ask for half a bread and a book. And I attack from here violently those who only speak about economic claims without never naming the cultural claims that it is for what the peoples ask loudly. It is good that all the men eat, but that all the men know. That enjoy all the fruits of the human spirit because the opposite is to convert them into machines to the service of the State, it is to turn them into slaves of a terrible social organization».

After eighty years, scarcely we have changed».

Seguidamente Luis José Cuadrado presented Manolo Madrid poet, writer and habitual collaborator of Magazine Atticus that had moved from its city of residence, Zamora, to accompany and to adorn with its poetical recital the presentation of the number THREE.

Later the publisher was grateful for the work of all the collaborators as well as the contribution of a series of institutions and companies and big friends Atticus and the assistance of all those who were filling the room. In the end a video was projected as summary of this beautiful number THREE.
