Emma is a young beauty of only thirty years. It is blind. It is employed at the Phone of the Hope because he knows very well how to offer hope to the world. He lives in a small apartment with the only company of its dog Thread. The suitable person alternates its fiancés without finding. With its last fiancé she does not manage to remain a pregnant woman with which it finishes this relation and initiates the search of a perfect sperm, without complications, without falling in love, without feelings. Two candidates arise, on the one hand Germán, psychologist and therapist whom it meets in the therapy at which he is present and the different one will be a new neighbor, Diego. What in the beginning looks like an easy target for Emma it will not be so much on having fallen down in the pitfall of its own game. In the end it will discover that there are many ways of being blind and that the blindness not only takes root in its eyes.
A comment in the radio was enough to me up to cheer me to see this movie. Its director came to one of these promotional interviews and managed to receive my attention. I feel attracted towards these persons who have a disability and who are capable of being unrolled by the life. Roberto Pérez is one of them. It sees the life from a point of view further down of the habitual thing, since it goes in wheelchair, but a handicapped person does not do that to him. He narrates the life of a nice and bold woman, Emma, who is blind and, circunstancialmente, it is blind since he believes that the only way of solving its dissatisfaction is being a mother.
The movie starts with an image somewhat habitual in many movies, but that here turns in leitmotiv: Emma has a pregnancy test and cannot know if it is pregnant because it is blind and its dog, Thread cannot say it to itself.
This sequence is the whole intentions declaration. It is a dramatic movie but with stimulant touches of humor that narrates a love story where the blindness is very present, both of physical form and of sentimental form. How many times will we have heard that that he usually say to the in love person «if it is that you are blind» or that other «if it is that only it sees for her eyes». Roberto Pérez constructs, in its prime opera, a decisive sentimental history but without falling down in the habitual topics not of the affectionate situations, not of the personages who show some type of functional disability.
In the love we all are a little blind, we are giving blind person sticks for the life. We walk "blindly" in search of the suitable person. In that we are equal to Emma who hardly ever leaves its cane. Emma is employed at the Phone of the Hope («but charging eh») because he knows very well how to offer the hope to the world. But he feels unable to love nobody. Perhaps this is the motive that takes him to a group of therapy (it does not remain very clear which the motives are and even clear she itself in its presentation «that I do not know very well because I am here»). It has just broken with a noviete, a slightly habitual thing in her as this way its neighbor reproaches him «you change more of fiancé that of sunglasses», to what Emma answers that «I do not change so much sunglasses»). In this group it will meet Germán, a firm and nice candidate for its intention of remaining a pregnant woman.
The group of therapy is a motive appellant in the movies. One of the last ones that we could have seen is that of Fat persons of Daniel Sánchez Arevalo (of which we already comment on something on these pages Fat persons). It is a resource that serves to present the spectator the personages across its own story, of its particular me. Each of the integral personages of this group has behind himself a history, in some of them more developed than in others, but all with the common denominator of being scared before the life. Here the resource works to show us it well that Emma can empatizar with the whole world, that its physical disability it does not prevent from being sensitive to the rest and from taking the things with enough humor. Emma appears before the life like a strong, dynamic, independent woman who hates the compassion and that they say to him what can and cannot do. Emma has constructed herself an emotional barrier, by means of the irony, to prevent from knowing it. If of a building it was talking each other we might use the similar one of which Emma has one very good front but its interior it is quite damaged.
Before such a powerful personality the director (and scriptwriter) resists the feminine role with two masculine ones. One of them acts of lady's man, of handsome man, of butts intellectually. He is a Germán, psychologist and therapist who will turn out to be immersed in a sensations maelstrom on having met Emma and who will put upside down its life. It will prove to have a big disability that the spectator will have to discover. And other, he is Diego. A young man, younger enough than Emma, who assumes the protector's role before its incapability to show what he feels for the protagonist.
Six points on Emma it is structures on six chapters or points, the same points, six, with which in Braille it is constructed each of the letters of its alphabet.
Any points of the movie I have not just liked for how they present before themselves, be already for lack of justification in the plot (as the reason comes to therapy) or is missing of resolution (the recordings of Germán) but finally we are or better we are present at a narrated history of brilliant form, without local appellants on disabilities, brave, emotive in some moments (he would emphasize the row with the neighbor) nothing superficial and that he proposes some reflection to us. Finally, one of the best Spanish movies of the year that contribute a new sap of the hand of its director / scriptwriter and the consecration of Verónica Echegui who proves to be simply extraordinary. Echegui realizes a big work forcing its role but with a natural and believable result (this recent merecidísimo does not wonder award of Better Actress of Zonazine of the festival of Malaga; also I take that of Better New Script for Roberto Pérez). Well wrapped up by its partners of share-out where there would stand out the set of the personages, almost anonymous, of the group of therapy.
In the end I go out of movies with a good sensation. I have not lost the time seeing this movie. It increases in my this empathy with the people with some disability (especially that of not seeing) and I realize that there are many people with disability, some of them are seen more and to others one does not notice us so much.
