The Museum of Artistic Reproductions finds head office in the House of the Sun

With the times that cover to be present at the opening of a new space museístico it is the whole lujazo. This luck, this award, has touched in Valladolid.

The lovers of the art are / are of congratulations. To Mr. The minister of Culture must have seemed small to him thing that thing about to inaugurate a museum in Valladolid (perhaps be that this project was a question of the previous team of Government). Anyway, let's leave the politics aside, and centrémonos in this singular space that comes to complement the head office of the Museum of Sculpture formed by three buildings: the School of San Gregorio (the thickness of the pictorial and sculptural funds of the museum), the Palace of Villena (hall of temporary exhibitions and administrative use) and the House of the Sun or palace of the Count of Gondomar, or church of San Benito Old man (with these three names there is known this space that has turned into the head office of the Museum of Artistic Reproductions).

In the House of the Sun we can contemplate a beautiful collection of 270 pieces. It is a question of a selection of the best works: centenary replies of classic antiquities; a summary of masterpieces distributed by all the museums of the world: from Laocoonte al Discóbolo, from portraits of the Fayum to the Mask of Agamenón.

The funds of this singular and beautiful museum it comprises more than 3.000 pieces of emptyings of oriental art (Assyrian, heating and Egyptian), outstanding figure (Greek, Roman and Iberian), medieval (Romanesque and Gothic), of the renaissance, baroque and neoclassicism. It is a question of reproductions realized in the XIXth and XXth centuries so much of sculpture as architecture, glíptica, painting, decorative arts and armament, on different supports (cast, role, metal, glass, etc.).

With this space the Museum of Sculpture raises its category and it is located like the only museum. Till now its funds were constituting it, fundamentally, religious sculpture of the XVth to XVIIIth centuries. Now, on having incorporated these sculptures, the geographical ambience is extended and not only it reaches the representation of works of art of our national territory but it goes from Egypt, Rome or the classic Greece. The Museum of Sculpture has turned into one of the main museums of this artistic branch. In Europe scarcely we are provided with another two examples: the Museum Bode of Berlin and the Museum Bargello in Florence.

From the proper museum they recommend this space for the whole world, for a wide plurality:

«It will be a Museum directed to a publics' wide plurality: to the students of fine arts, to the historians, to the worried ones by the theoretical and social debate on our cultural practices, to teachers and students — since this space assembles big dispersed milestones of the art for museums of the whole world — to the experts in new technologies and in the digital world, to the young interested parties for the virtual simulacra, to the artists who experiment with old and new skills, to the faithful of the ancient world, to the onlookers, to the lovers of the paradoxes, to whom they have a right not to know anything …»

The permanent exhibition is structured in 5 sections:

The "invention" of the Antiquity

Section dedicated to the fervor by the ancient thing initiated in the Renaissance and reached in the XVIIIth century with the finds of Pompeii, or the discoveries of Olimpia and Micenas, at the end of the XIXth century. From here on, is explained itself how some antiquities will reach a massive diffusion across the copies. You act: The Discóbolo, Works of the Parthenon, Portraits of the Fayum, Paintings of Pompeii, Mask of Agamenón.

The naked beauty

Section dedicated to the importance and the prestige of the ancient sculpture is the harmony of the Greek bodies, and the creation of an esthetic canon turned into an academic dogma of long duration. You act: The Doríforo, the Venus of Médicis, the seated Mercury...

Images of the fury

The «dark side» and dramatist of the classic myths: the world of the violence, the delight and the madness personified by the rituals dionisiacos and for fantastic beings: You act: Sleeping faun, the Centaur, dancing Menade, Pan and satyr, etc.

Wise persons and heroes

The antiquity read in political and moral key, like source of lessons that inspire modern rewriting of the history: images of heroes, philosophers, men of power and epic stories. You act: Laocoonte, moribund Gaul, busts of Séneca, Marco Aurelio, Epicuro, Homero …

Puzzlers and fragments

The Antiquity as a set of ruins undecipherable and enigmatic that successive generations have tried to identify. The modern fascination for the fragment. You act: Torso of Belvedere, godforsaken Ariadna, the Espinario, the Gladiator Borghese

3 euros are the general tariff. This entry gives right to visit two head offices (even the Neapolitan Bethlehem, in the Palace of Villena). Bearing in mind the prices that fight in Madrid even it seems cheap to me. But if nevertheless you differ with me you have the possibility of gaining access to the free Museum on Saturdays evenings or every Sunday.

It comes to the Museum. It is worth it. In Magazine Atticus we are already preparing an article about the Museum of Artistic Reproductions, which soon will see the light.

From February 29 until March 4, 2012 DAY OF OPEN DOORS.
