A young woman of good family, Skeeter, comes back home of its parents after its long journey in the university. It brings a desire under the arm: to write a book. For it it will have to find its place. It centers on an interview with one of the black servants who so much abound in its environment. He wants to capture a sight different from the relations between the servants and the ladies.

Comment:

Servants and ladies there is a movie that in the beginning of the XXIst century is necessary. There are still those who believe in the supremacy of a race on other one and that the blacks and white persons are different.

Servants and ladies it penetrates into the racial conflict through that one lived in the USA. during the decade of the 60s. The Movement for the Civil rights in the United States constituted a long struggle so that all the oppressed ones (fundamentally the black citizens) had full access to the civil rights and this way at once to end with the racial segregation. This struggle took place between 1955 (with the denial of an African American citizen to transfer its seat in a bus to a target – the boycott to the buses Montgomery-) and the murder of Martin Luther King in 1968. This topic of the racial conflicts, in its hardest declaration, already was an object of a good movie: It burns Mississippi.

Skeeter is a young woman who wants to write a book. It comes to a publisher but as it has no experience he advises him to begin for being employed at a newspaper and in turn it faces him so that it finds “its voice”, this history that takes him to a good history that is worth being published. In its infancy, as in that of so many other small girls, the role of the mother was assumed by the black women and gordotas servants. It happens to him that they have great that to say. But this is not easy at all. There begins its interview with the willful one (and tired of so many violent act, of the degradation that the servants suffer on the part of the white adults while Aibileen raises its children), raised of one of family. But he will have to convince to more so that they could constitute between all a convincing history and publicable.

This history constitutes the cinematic speech in itself. The toads and wagons that they have to swallow to obtain a negligible salary that many of the times were spending for the constant disparagement (like the fact of constructing in the house a cleaning for the black woman so that it does not contaminate other members of the family).

One of the best definitions that can happen of the movie is the one that there gives the critic Julio Rodríguez Chico (in the web of the butaca.net, very advisable).

«There are black histories not because its protagonists are ancient slaves now turned into servants, but because they show a shamefaced reality and the blackness of a few souls of white appearance».

In spite of how hard this topic is, in the movie it is treated as a kind form, and even it was possible to say pleasant. With a sour irony the director has centred more on the concrete situations over the social and political situation of the epoch. The director denounces behaviors inside the family, day by day of the everyday life. It puts the accent in the difficulties that these black women had to spend and especially in the fear of possible countermeasures for denouncing, elegantly, these acts. The ladies become vulgar, vile and coarse and the servants are ladies with its children (those of the seño) and elegant in the way of expressing in the interviews its opinions.

Servants and ladies a brave bet is that insurance that visionará in the schools and institutes to see like the human injustice, little by little, is leaving raisin to a full equality between who it does not have the same color in the skin. It is emotive, without falling down in the mushy thing, it is very entertaining (in spite of its more than two hours) and we are transmitted by an encouraging message and that, therefore, they make her very advisable.
