Leni Riefenstahl in Valladolid

The esthetics of the power in the years of HITLER” with a selection of more of half a hundred of photos of the photographer and director of movies LENI RIEFENSTAHL In addition to The half hundred of works, there will appear its two big movies and some objects. In the sample there join the photos that it realized of Greece, and the images of the Olympiad of 1936 in Berlin. Hitler always thought that the Greeks had reached the summit of the human civilization in all the fields, and that the Dorian tribe, who had come to Greece from the North, was of Germanic origin.

Leni Riefenstahl was the film maker more talented woman of the XXth century. The worship that had the Germany Nazi, turned it also into a fearsome figure. Leni Riefenstahl occupied an out-standing place and its movies of the congresses of the Third Reich and its cinematic vision of the Olympic Games of 1936 in Berlin, they received communion with the system of propaganda of the national socialism. Its work, few ones doubt it, it borders on the genius. This way it demonstrated it especially in its two big documentaries: The victory of the will (1935) and Olympics (1938). As we were saying, both were propaganda movies of the Third Reich, and from there there becomes detached the paradox that Leni Riefenstahl would always load with it: that of an immeasurable artistic talent put to the service of the worst thing that the humanity has given. The film maker never wanted to get rid of this contradiction. Up to the end of its days he hid after its supposed ingenuousness and the intentional apocalyptic character of its movies. It left a work of recognized talent and it will always stay like example of the dangerous tie between the genius in the search of the esthetics and the propaganda to the service of the worst ideology. Hitler's name will remain indissolubly linked to of her, happening to be the film maker favorite of the Führer.

Leni Riefenstahl, was born in Berlin, on August 22, 1902 and died in Pöcking, Bavaria, on September 8, 2003. Known by its cinematographic and propaganda productions during the Germany Nazi, Leni demonstrated from its infancy a big interest in the painting. She was a ballerina at the age of 21, movie actress to the 24, photographer and director of movies to the 29. In 1932 it directed You give Blaue Licht (The blue light, 1932) that, after being rewarded in the Festival of Venice, threw it to the international reputation.

In the same year he listened to Adolf Hitler in a meeting and offered him its talent and collaboration. Across Rudolf Hess, Hitler offered him to film the concentration of the Divided Nazi in the Field Zeppelín of Nuremberg in 1933 since the dictator had remained much impressed with the first work of Leni like cinematographic director with Das Blaue Licht. Riefenstahl accepted the proposal and realized what today is known as The Trilogy of Nuremberg, one of the most effective political-propaganda documentaries never filmed

The exhibition is completed by a camerawoman Leica of the artist with the emblem of the Olympic Games of Berlin, as well as a German magazine of the epoch. It is a question of a copy of “Berliner Illuftrirte Zeitung” which front revers the face of an Aryan athlete on the fund of a Greek God.
