Aficionados is an independent movie produced exclusively with private financing, written by the proper actors, mixing reality and fiction, and tire for a newly bulging technical team of the schools. During the 54th International Week of Movies of Valladolid a work copy was projected in two movie meetings evaluation, after which there was distributed to the public a survey, which results were revealed very valuable during the definitive assembly of the movie.

Fans, like the life itself.

Aficionados is the prime opera of Arturo Dueñas, in what it refers to full-lenght films, because the director vallisoletano had already realized previously two short ones (Run, run, run and Pucela Square).

The movie is a “metaphor of the life” like itself it has defined it: Fans are six real personages histories in crisis, of the isolation of our society, of the difficulty that the personal and social relations contain. All this maintains a common bond: The theater. Precisely, from the improvisation of the exercises of a workshop of theater the movie has arisen.

The routine character that invades each and everyone of the raised situations does that this movie of collective creation turns out to be very nearby. The spectator can identify with the histories of its personages, reason for which turns out to be emotive, sweet and fresh.

Arturo is a librarian who lives alone. Its solitude is accentuated when its attendant has to leave to Ecuador. Although its situation changes on having crossed in its way Cardigan, a girl whom it has met in the theatrical workshop. Cardigan is employed at a racetrack and is a single mother. Its quandary is the nonexistent relation with its father, a man intransigent and full of prejudices, a personage who appears, almost in the shade, in the movie. On the other hand, Arturo realizes a type of “peculiar loan” in the library of the faculty where it works: He recommends books to the students and throws those books that he does not like.

Jesus is a teacher who lives with its sister. The coexistence is good until it discovers that its sister has a sentimental relation and go out to re-show its jealousy.

Problems of professional type affect Laura, Mauro and Nuria, what will end up by influencing its personal life. Laura spends the day to herself working for its company, the executive's stereotype is a snob, an enterprising and very constantly in its work, although this is costing him leaving aside its marriage. Nuria is its coworker, question that both prefer to forget on having entered the theatrical workshop; it is not valued for its office, in spite of its effort and its firmness, she feels ignored by its chief. Mauro is Italian, he lives with its wife and its two daughters and works like teacher and cook (without having not even kitchen idea), although its real passion is the theater. Its wife reproaches constantly the time that happens in the theatrical workshop, with the consequent abandonment of its family.

The theater is what joins all the problems and, in turn, it presents itself as the solution: The touch of sweetness and mitigation to the problems of every personage, the seed of the friendship between them. In this sense, we must do a merecidísimo I remember to “The trip nowhere” (Fernando Fernán Gómez, 1986), Better Movie in the first prizes Goya, of which this year its annual 25 have been fulfilled. The movie counts the exploits of a group of actors during the Spanish postwar period, its adventures and misfortunes for the peoples of Castile, plunged in the poverty and the illiteracy and the emergence of the movies, new spectacle of masses, like competitor of the theater. In spite of everything (the theater cannot be its subsistence way and they are personages “badly seen” – comics – before the eyes of a hypocritical and closed society), the Talía art is its real vocation and the thread with which they sew its personal relations (familiar and affectionate); similar situation is, also, the one through that the protagonists of the movie live “Birds of role” (Emilio Aragón, 2010) this one, of less quality.

Aficionados combines theater – surrounds and also it would have a good approach from the world of the television, since of every history an exceptional argument might leave for a series.

I would like emphasizing two innovative aspects of the movie:

First of all, the music: Since Arturo Dueñas has indicated, the main song (“That should extinguish the light”) has been composed by Asturian Margarita Rodríguez Miranda, keen musician. It is a romantic and sticky melody simultaneously; he accompanied (in this case, turning into music diegética) six personages in the sequence of Arturo's birthday, which it had to "celebrate" only for different motives.

Secondly, the original way of presenting Valladolid before the camera: The times have not been great that the film makers have elected the ancient Pintia as a stage: The most recent movie has been “A good day anyone has it” (Santiago Lorenzo, 2007), led by the excellent actors vallisoletanos Juan Antonio Quintana and Diego Martín. Traditionally, always the emblematic monuments of the city have appeared (churches of Santa Maria the Antigua, San Pablo, museums – National of Sculpture and Contemporary Art museum … etc), nevertheless, Made fond it gives us a young and cosmopolitan vision of the city: Cultural Valladolid (University, Theater of Street, sand sculptures contest), modern (town-planning growth: Parquesol) and opened on the outside (routes of the A.V.E). . Big wise move, since it it has been also the presentation of this movie in the 54th Seminci edition: The surveys to which the public answered, changed the content and the form of the movie. New way of doing movies and of immersing the spectator in the art.

Like colophon, only I can only wish a lot of luck the whole team of Arturo Dueñas, for the Goya of next year and for its new projects and recommend to the film fans Fans to come to see, a movie “like the life itself”.

 HE INTERVIEWS ARTURO PROPRIETORS

Owing to the premiere of the movie Made fond, our collaborator Cristy G. Luxuriant it realized an interview to its director. Because of space we leave an extract of the same one to you.

On Sunday, “hour of the vermouth”. We arrange to meet with Arturo Dueñas Herrero in a central snack bar vallisoletana to speak about Fans, its first full-lenght film. He is accompanied by two of the actors of the movie, Nuria of Towers and Jesus Burgoa and Snow Rye, assistant of assembly and “adviser“. Aficionados is a movie of collective, entertaining, sweet creation, and especially, very really that he speaks to us about six different lives but with something together: As in our current society, all of them are in crisis.

How did arise the idea of doing this full-lenght film, Made fond, after its short two, Run, run, run and Pucela Square?

The idea arose, precisely, after doing Pucela Square, in which the same actors took part, we had known each other in a theater workshop. He was Jesus (Jesus Burgoa) the one that proposed to me to do a full-lenght film and to mix this way the experience of the theater with its own lives.

What more I have surprised of the movie is that he lacks a previous script. Why did you take this decision? This way of working major heart or less difficulty?

We decide it this way because the movie arose immediately after the exercises of improvisation that we realized in the classes of theater. Sometimes, the dialogues of some movies are very forced, very forced. On the other hand, Made fond it was constructed little by little. This way of working turned out to be much complicated at the time of carrying out the assembly.

It is almost of forced fulfillment to wonder (for the actuality question) what do you think about the controversial Law Sinde?

The Law Sinde is unnecessary and it is dividing very much the people. It is necessary that authors, interpreters and technical staff live of its work. The massive discharges do that this sector disappears and condemn the Movies students to the unemployment. The most ironic thing is that all this is done “on behalf of the freedom”. The closing page is not the solution. The solution is the platforms creation for legal discharges, something that is already done in the United States and that begins in Spain with a monthly subscription (5 or 6 euros a month). But the tax laws do not contribute anything.

The music of the movie has seemed excellent to me, especially, the song that accompanies Arturo in the sequence in which he is waiting for its friends in the restaurant to celebrate its birthday. Who is the author and interpreter?

The song is a letter and original music for the movie. It is entitled “That extinguishes the light” and we will present it to the Goya of next year so that he chooses to the award to the best original song. The authoress of the letter and musician is Asturian Margarita Rodríguez Miranda, also keen, not professional music. The singer is Verónica Ronda, teacher of voice of the workshop of theater. To the violoncello, José Maria Villarreal and to the piano, Pablo Rodríguez, teacher of the course of the workshop of theater, both in the fiction and in the reality.
