Black swan or the story inside the story - the work of art inside the work of art - is released in the Spanish rooms on February 18, 2011 and is endorsed by the both American and European criticism. In the center of an excellent share-out of secondary actors, stands out its protagonist, Natalie Portman, the main actress, both of the movie and of the ballet on which the same one turns.
The history of Black Swan began to grow ten years before the beginning of its shooting. Its director, the almost not not known one neyorquino Darren Aronofsky, decided to carry out it when it found the adapted actors and the context. The nucleus of the movie turns concerning the world of the ballet, which for him is known, since its sisters devoted themselves to the dance from girls. A universe of sensations, events and realities they prostrate themselves before him showing him the raw reality: broken sinews, nutritive disorders, blood in feet and hands, tears, hard essays and trainings … All of them are the real makers, from the drop cloths, of the magic, sleep, light, beauty and perfection that floods the spectator when he is going to attend the spectacle.
The plot centers on the Girl's personage (Natalie Portman), promising ballerina of a ballet company of New York, who lives exclusively for and for the dance. Its world turns concerning an infantile room of musical boxes, dolls of plush and a possessive and obsessive mother whose sleep gilded in its youth was also to be “cousin ballerina” but that he turned out to be truncated by the birth of its daughter. Girl is chosen for the role of La Reina of the Swans in the famous ballet The Lake of the Swans of Tchaikovsky, substituting to till then the first ballerina of the company, Beth Macintyre (Winona Ryder), old and worn-out (in spite of its youth) it to keep on being. From this moment, its paranoias and obsessions of perfection are evident and are accentuated increasingly. There contributes to this stormy climate the ambitious artistic director of the company, Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel), who only sees in Girl the representation of virginal and innocent Cisne Blanco, but not the necessary dark side of the Black Swan. To increase moreover the pressure, it appears in scene Lily (Mila Kunis), who comes from San Francisco to cover the position of one of the choral swans, but who little by little begins to turn into the alter dark ego of the protagonist. The rivalry between both grows little by little, and the shaded Girl side begins to appear as the length advances.
Natalie Portman is haughty in its role, on the other hand very complex. Aronofsky forced him which was losing twelve kilos to get into the Girl's skin, recaptured the ballet steps - almost forgotten since she was an adolescent - experienced a monastic life - it neither was drinking, he neither ate, nor was smoking during the months of shootings and exhausting essays, it was isolated from its friends, and she lived exclusive for the shooting of the movie. Its change is more than notable from the beginning of the movie up to the end, with big surprises in a drama that goes away conviertiendo in a psychological thriller with an end opened for the meditation of the spectator.
Topics as the psychological disorders that there implies the ballerina's profession, the bulimia, anorexia, the autoinjury, the obsession with the perfection of the proper person, the sex and the frigidity, the abuses of authority, the competitiveness … are some of those that Black Swan tackles, only mentioning the most important.
Very fully deserved are all the awards and international nominations that the Israeli actress has got for this role, between them the golden Balloon to the Best Actress of Drama. 90 % of the scenes of dance she rolled herself without need for doubles, and the physical changes are those that its body experienced in the course of the cinematic story.
The career of Darren Aronofsky like the director is not very long. In fact, it has been always recognized like the director of independent character in festivals like that of Sundance, with movies as Pi or Réquiem for a sleep. With The Fighter (The Wrestler, 2008) he gathered awards as the León of Gold in the Festival of Venice or nominations in the Bafta of the same year. 2011 is its year because with Black Swan the recognition has come to him on behalf of criticism and public equally.
The cast of secondary actors is wonderful. Magnificent veteran Barbara Hershey, oppressive mother, who remembers other unforgettable progenitoras like that of Carrie or to the actress Joan Crawford and the destructive relation that maintained with its foster children that maltraba psychologically. Splendid also Mila Kunis, in the role of Lily, whom it kept removed from its big friend Portman to increase the tension and the rivalry between them. Merecidísima its nomination to the golden Balloon as Better Secondary Actress of dramatic movie. Beth's personage do not stop believing in Winona Ryder, in a role that repeats, after The life deprived of Pippa Lee. The roll of depressed, tortured and tired woman is suspending him and its career does not stop mending the flight after its magnificent blast-off in the nineties.
To conclude, I would like highlighting the fundamental role that there play the wardrobe - designed by Amy Westcott - and the makeup. Both turn into accomplices of two swans. The duality of the white person and the black is clear: tutus, jerseys, toreras and you come up for Portman; against leggings, tattooes, and look smoky in the Kunis face. All this does that it is an intimate, evocative, elegant movie … Perfect in its story, interpretation and in the drafts that the history is giving. Recommended for the lovers of the dance, for those of the good interpretations, and those that love the psychology, the intricate histories and the open ends, the oneiric ambience, the drama, the thriller and the art in general.
