BETWEEN THE SACRED THING AND THE PHANTASMAGORIC THING
He was intending to visit the sample of “Real Lo Sagrado Hecho” in the National museum of Sculpture of my dear Valladolid. I it did with more emphasis (and I think to repeat), since he was reading an opinion inserted in the brilliant virtual Magazine Atticus, to which I feel already honor almost to belong, although it is alone like mere admirer and reader … In the above mentioned comment was qualifying this incomparable exhibition something like “nothing of another world” and on the other hand it was giving for fact that was much better another parallel sample of Jean Dubuffet in the Church of the Passion and The Frenches of the city vallisoletana.
It is for it that I moved exclusively to visit both exhibitions and extracted my own conclusions that I try to exhibit in this brief comment.
I do not believe that it was alone for sculptural professional distortion, but for the quality of the same one, I hallucinated with “The sacred Real fact”, especially with the pieces imagineras baroque there exhibited. Without doing either comparisons or quality distinctions, I am still shaken by this Ecce Homo of our Gregorio Fernández, whose invoice and anatomical packing leaves without breath the most phlegmatic … Although there are works much known about Mountain-dweller, Pipe, Table, Ore … of the Andalusian school and Gregorio Fernández of the Castilian one, they do not stop always surprising the spectator and even more when given its closeness, you can aspire up to the breath of its souls of noble wood.
With an elegant assembly and installation, we sink in an environmental mystery that makes highlight moreover sculptures and linens of the big teachers of the Spanish baroque …
For putting a small discordant morello cherry to the sample, there me takes a fancy a big defenselessness of the pieces of the reclining crucifix of Gregorio Fernández and the Painful one of the native of Granada Pedro de Mena, both very singular pieces of these haughty makers of religious images whose personality reflects the difference of doing and showing that it exists between two emblematic schools, Andalusian and Castilian.
Any way he supposed a delight that leaves a flavor “to little” and at least to my, this Exhibition was made small where I remained during more than two hours to me and that of course I think to repeat shortly more visits.
With time urgency I approached the Church of The Passion to see the "recommended one" Dubuffet and for more attempts that I did of looking for the argument on which someone was basing of qualifying of "better" to the newly visited sample of the Museum, did not find it. Respecting to the maximum this French argumentative artist, the both pictorial and sculptural sample seemed to me how its title indicates “Phantasmagoric“ in the widest sense of its set. Even, if to be a scholar expert in painting, I think that that of this author enjoys a big professional instability. Of its sculptures which matter is very primary, he would say that they enjoy a conceptual decorativism that works according to the environment and ambience where they are. For me, nothing more. But of to want to compare or value qualities between an exhibition and other one not at all since there is a disparity of epochs and evaluations that little have to do.
