An European long journey

It is a time to travel and to enjoy the time. A history of a trip has come to us. Jesus Cuadrado of the Limekiln sends it to us. I hope that you should like.

An European long journey

A few months ago I had the opportunity to do a trip of work that turned into a pleasure trip, on having had sufficient time to cover several European cities near to the center of work; Maastrich. He wanted to tell you this trip, for the interesting and productive thing of the same one, since in few kilometers it exists much that to see and of very different nature.

To loins of the "donkey"

Let's start by Maastrich, city with many history and with an enviable activity, thanks to its university. They organize festivals of music and theater in the square of the town hall during the whole year, in spite of the rain that falls down with enough frequency in the area. The river Maas crosses it (navigable like many of Holland) and its singular architecture does a very nice city.

Like curious places, apart from the typical ones, it is necessary to mention a bookstore constructed inside a church (belonging to the chain, in the Dominicanerkerkstraat 1) that also has been rewarded by “The Guardian“ as the nicest of the world. Also there is a hotel following this style, but less famous (Kruisherenhotel) in Kruisherengang 29.

To taste one (s) good beer (s) there are many places, but I was well attended especially in “Of Karakol” (Stokstraat), where the proprietor gave to us to try several of its faucets until we met on the favorite variety.

And if it does not rain, it is worth going for a walk in bike (they rent them for 7€ the day) or on foot for the wall and the park that surrounds, where in addition to a small zoo there is one strange monument to a dead giraffe which history we do not manage to discover it.

Also, its surroundings allow to enjoy the beauty of the Dutch country that I recommend to cover in bicycle for few physical difficulty that needs and for the preparation of highways and ways for the use of this way of transport. There is a heap of campings and a sports port on the south, with snack bars and refreshment stalls. As goal of this walk, Valkenburg, a pueblecito to 10 km with a castle, remains of an ancient wall and heaps of bars - caves resulted from its ancient mining activity.

Aachen

To 40 km from Maastrich there is Aachen (Aachen, in German), the administrative capital of the empire of Carlomagno. Decorated with mármoles spectacular, a visit deserves its Cathedral, as well as the Carlomagno treasure. In this city there is a typical place to taste the German sausages; I do not remember the name, but yes that was in the street Krämerstrasse.

A little further, Cologne (Koln) is, with a gigantic Cathedral restored (almost reconstructed) after the bombings of the 2nd World war. Much quite near of the cathedral, in Unter Taschenmacher 5-7, there is a very advisable restaurant, the BrauHaus Zion, where they serve the beer with a very curious method and put an exquisite elbow to the ember. To lower the elbow, a walk towards the river for the Satzgasse, a street fills of bars and restaurants, with very much ambience.

Lovaina

Highly advisable is the visit to Lovaina, university, very nice campus, with a cathedral reconstructed also, how many monuments of the area. I had the occasion to admire a mosaic of flowers that mounted on Sunday that I visited it. For lovers of the nature, its botanical garden has a collection of curious cactuses.

Archifamosas is Bruges and Ghent, a little further of Maastrich. I recommend to do in the night in Bruges and flee of the weekend, for the exaggerated tourists inflow. Both cities are to more charming which. Do visit in Ghent the Castle of the Counts of Flanders, in the magnificent conservation state and the windmills in Bruges, along the channel that surrounds the city. In the street NoordzenStraat there is a typical brewery where the proprietor, very politely and making a show of English that I already wanted, advised us where to have dinner and what places to visit. The truth is that Bruges is a city full of corners and done to walk, of course between week.

P.D. If you puncture directametne on the this linkage it takes you there same, thanks to Jesus's work and, porqué not to say it, to Google Maps.

We wait for your histories. Of trips or of how enjoying the time. Or of what inspires you, or as the youngest say … of those that it should put to you. If there are already no ashes in the air …: what the goosefeet of our horizon go away also!
