Invictus of Clint Eastwood

INVICTUS

The new movie of Clint Eastwood has already come to the movies screens. The Californian director has turned into a reference for its trajectory. For quines they follow him or we continue that it is the whole guarantee at the time of choosing to go to see a movie.

Its last tapes it demonstrates its good one to do and its social commitment. Between them Big Torino (2009) or Million Dollar Baby (2005) is necessary to stand out.

Invictus is based on the novel of John Carlin The human factor (of resounding original title: Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made to Nation). As main protagonists are an exceptional Morgan Freeman in the role of Nelson Mandela and a sober and convincing Matt Damon (François Pienaar). The facts that the movie narrates happened at the beginning of 1990 at the moment when Nelson Mandela leaves the jail after 27 years. The government liberated the South African leader with the hope that it was better, for its intentions, which it was free that prisoner, since they had the vain hope that the absence of freedom had tamed its iron will to turn into a leader for its people. Order it at once it tried to offer a conciliation message expressing that the targets but the apartheid were not the enemy. Of Klerk (ancient leader) and her Be in charge they shared in 1993 the Nobel Prize of the Peace for its efforts to restore the democracy in South Africa. But on the following year the country was plunged in a chaos. Spoken of a war of low intensity. Nelson Mandela turned into the only option to celebrate a call of a few multiracial elections. Something unthinkable a few months behind.

It is in this moment when it starts the movie. Order it he is the president of South Africa and the apartheid has fallen down. But the true thing is that the problems between white persons and blacks keep on being daily. In 1995 it goes to celebrate III Cup of the World of the Rugby in South Africa. Order it it sees in this historical opportunity a good motive for filing interracial roughnesses. It turns the championship into an instrument of conciliation of its people. The rugby is the national sport. The big achievement of Order it the fact was that he could turn to the situation: what previously was the symbol of the oppression of the targets during decades turned it into a team with multiracial, proud spirit of its country: the Springboks (in allusion to the African gazelle that is the symbol of the nation). The South African leader could involve the team by means of its young captain François Pienaar. This is the history that Invictus counts.

In any good movie during the course of the same one we are present at an evolution of the protagonist. In this case the protagonist is the South African people. Clint Eastwood manages to evolve its protagonist and happens of booing in the preparatory parties for the Championship and cheering the team opposite to feel up identified with its team coming to the collective madness.

The situation of that moment was critical. The movie starts with a scene of the liberation of Order it. What for some was a hope for others was the slope. On having contemplated the scene, the trainer of a team of rugby said to the sportsmen, white persons: "Remember, boys, this is the day in which our country will begin going away apeak”. While to another side of the highway, a group of black children leaves disturbed the soccer ball to approach up to the fence that it separates to them and vitorear to its leader. Rugby opposite to soccer, freedom opposite to oppression.

I already, already know that many of you you say to me that if many bla, bla, but, finally: did you like? My evaluation.

It is a sorrow that those that being able to be wise persons are content with the mediocrity. Invictus is a good movie. A movie that narrates an epic, glorious exploit, of a sports event. It has many connotations and it is not to remain alone with the athletic glory. But what lamentation is that the excellent director as Clint Easwood there has not achieved to extract the maximum departed from a few magnificent wickers (today that it finds it hard to find so much good histories, good scripts). It seems to the director that it him forgot what precisely gives title to the work on which it is based. The human factor forgot him. Scarcely its hand is evident. The movie is very clean, without big devices and we help sat in the armchair more than two hours as if of a documentary it was talking each other. What is not precisely a demerit. But one asks for the Californian director more.

The achievement of overcoming the interracial problems owes, fundamentally, at the good disposal of its leaders and to the enormous civic grade demonstrated by its inhabitants. And this in the movie does not manage to be transmitted however much blacks or white persons embrace each other or however much they us show to a black child to share a refreshment with the white polis.

And sight that thrills the sports events to me with this exaltation of the homeland. But the movie does not come to me to thrill, it is less dramatic than the examples earlier said. It did not move the intestines to me.

The change of record of Eastwood will please to many people why in the end they will go out of the movies with a good retaste since it does not stop being a happy end. While to others, in which I include myself, we feel a bad mouth flavor because it has us used to not happening quite chewed and to having a dramatic end that invites us to the reflection.

Finally and although I do not get excited I admit that it is a good movie, simple, without claw but hotly and behind her there is a good work.

It was doing time that from these pages he was not speaking about movies. Invictus has obtained it. A point in its favor. Another point more obtains it why he has been able to receive the extract of the rugby and reproduces with enough loyalty what happened in that championship. As when we see to cry on the screen it has to be believable, the events of the game them have to be. I am a pettifogging lawyer but they have commented to me the people who of this knows that the blows of punishment the son. We go that is well realized and the setting is perfect.

Invictus is a parable on the birth of a nation. Behind there have stayed these facts that marked a historical stage full of disgrace. It is worth it that we see it although it is only for reflecting during a moment that the blacks, the inhabitants of South Africa, the native ones of a big country could not exercise its vote until 1994.

Finally, the poet William Ernest Henley escribío in 1875 a few poems. These poems served to Nelson Mandela to stay haughty in its sit-in. The same poems they are transmitted to captain François Pienaar so that it finds the motivation in achieving the exploit that he entrusts him. These are the poems:

 INVICTUS

Out of the night that covers me,
Black grasp the Pit from pole to pole,
The Ist thank whatever gods May be
For my unconquerable soul. –
In the fell clutch of circumstance
The Ist have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed. –
Beyond this pleases of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
The Ist am the master's degree of my fate;
The Ist am the captain of my soul. – -

In Spanish:

From the night that on me hovers,
black woman like its bottomless abyss,
I am grateful to the gods if they exist
for my unconquered soul.
Fallen down in the claws of the circumstance
nobody saw me crying nor blinking.
Under the blows of the destination
my gory head remains raised.
Beyond this place of tears and anger
the horrors of the shade lie,
but the threat of the years
it finds me, and it will find me, without fear.
It is not important how narrowly be the way,
how loaded with punishment the judgment.
I am the owner of my destination;
I am the captain of my soul
